Certified copy (Vital Records) |
- A certified copy is a copy of a document issued by a government agency or court guaranteed to be a true and exact copy of the original document kept on file in this agency.
- Only certified copies of such Vital Records as Birth Certificates, Marriage Certificates, Death Certificates can be legalized with an Apostille or by a foreign Embassy for use in a foreign country. Notarized or computer generated copies are not accepted for legalization.
- Upon request the Vital Records Office of the respective Depatment of Health will issue a certified copy of a Vital Record. In most cases certified copies bear the Seal of the Department of Health, the signature of the state officer (e.g. Commissioner of Health or State Registrar) and the statement that the document is in fact a true and correct copy of the original document kept on files of Vital Records Office.
